Adirondack High Adventure coming up January 31st thru February 2nd, 2008! Hi all High School Students in Troop 457,
As advertised earlier, the Troop 457 High Adventure Program will make a return trip to the Adirondacks for a winter adventure on the weekend of January 31st through February 2nd. Our itinerary calls for us to leave after school on Thursday, January 30th, spend two days in the Adirondacks, and then drive home on Sunday. On Friday we will climb up to a couple of mountains with snowshoes and crampons and Saturday will be a day to ski or snowboard at Whiteface or another Mountain to be determined. If there is interest and parents available to chaperone, an alternative to skiing on Saturday would be to tour the Olympic Winter Venue or a second hike. For those of you who were not able to join us last year, we had a great time with perfect weather. While I can’t promise the same weather this year, I can promise an adventure that should test your outdoor skills and sense of accomplishment. Once again we are staying in the Jack Rabbit hostel which has bunk beds for all, a full kitchen, three warm showers, and a TV with intermittent cable service.
I need to confirm our reservations at the Jack Rabbit and with the gear rental folks. In terms of cost, it is my expectation that the total cost including gas, food, rental of hiking gear, and hostel accommodations will run about $100 for the weekend. If you plan on skiing/boarding, your pass and any needed equipment rental including helmets, lessons you may want to take, etc., will be extra (please note: helmets will be required if you are on the slopes).
There will be space for up to 22 persons on the trip.
Regards to all,
