IMPORTANT PHILMONT NOTICE Here are the brief details. The Philmont 2004 GNFC Contingent will leave Buffalo on July 25, 2004 and return to Buffalo on August 8, 2004. The general itinerary is to spend the first night at an Indian Kiva in La Junta, CO and then arrive at Philmont, NM the next day. After spending a day in basecamp to get everything ready, you will hit the trail for 11 days of wilderness backpacking starting on July 27th. The contingent will leave Philmont on August 7th, probably spend the night in Colorado Springs or Denver and then fly home. I can not say for sure what you would see in Colorado Springs/Denver but I am helping plan the trip and suspect that the Air Force Academy will be an important part of the tour. The requirements to attend Philmont are as follows: You must be 14 on or before January 1, 2004, or a graduate of eighth grade by the time we leave. You also must be a first class scout. In addition you must be willing to work together in a team and put the crew’s interests ahead of your own. Finally, you must be willing to prepare both mentally and physically by attending the Troop’s shakedown events in the Spring before Philmont. The estimated cost of the trip is $1400 which includes all expenses except personal souvenirs and food during air travel. To register for a spot in Troop 457’s application you must submit your application and deposit to me by Thursday, January 9th. Applications must be filled out and a deposit included for both scouts and interested adults.
