From time to time, Troop 457 runs events that require an additional fee. Some examples of this are monthly campouts, the Klondike, or the long weekend trips such as the Detroit or Boston Trip. It is understood that scouts and parents sometimes run into circumstances in which they cannot attend an event that they have signed up and paid for. Sometimes the Troop has already paid for certain expenses for a trip that are nonrefundable or perishable, such as food or nonrefundable reservations for the trip. Therefore the Troop 457 Parent Committee has come up with what is hoped an equitable solution to this situation. Refunds will be made if cancellations are made prior to the due date for the signup. At the Scoutmaster's discretion, if an event's expenses are less than the amount taken in from fees for a particular trip, a portion of the fee may be refunded. However, please be aware that in many cases, the troop subsizes the events from the Troop treasury. If the Troop needs to cancel an event, any money paid will be refunded, or at the parent's discretion, be held for when the event is rescheduled. Events that are run by the council, such as summer camp, or are run by other organizations outside the troop, may have other cancellation policies. We hope you will find this policy fair. You are welcome to attend any Adult Committee meeting to express your opinions about this policy.
